Peter Obi Reacts To 8th National Grid Collapse, Assures Nigerians Of Robust Power If Elected

The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, on Wednesday expressed his concerns over the persistent breakdown of Nigeria’s electricity power generation grids.

In a post via his verified Twitter account today, the former Governor of Anambra State said if elected Nigeria’s president in the coming 2023 elections, his administration will ensure a robust improvement in power generation.

According to him, the repeated collapse of the national grid would be a thing of the past under his administration.

Obi, who described the latest national grid collapse as disturbing, said his team has a strategic plan to progressively scale up power generation and ensure liberalisation of the transmission infrastructure in the country, to ensure that Nigerians enjoy adequate and stable power supply from 2023 onwards.

The presidential hopeful said power remains a top priority on his agenda as a president.

Obi’s tweet reads: “The report of yet another national grid collapse is very disturbing to me, and is a reminder of the long rescue and recovery journey ahead of us. Effective power generation, transmission and distribution remain a national security issue.

“This also places power on the front burner of campaign and policy. Painfully, this latest episode is the 7th national grid collapse in 2022. As part of the Obi-Datti policy plan, we have put together a strategic plan to progressively scale up power generation, and the liberalisation of the transmission infrastructure in the country, to ensure that Nigerians enjoy adequate and stable power supply from 2023 onwards. Power is critical to the development and sustainability of all sectors of the national economy

“For us, power remains a top priority. Under my watch, national grid collapse will become a matter of history and a reference point for erstwhile administrations. -PO.”

Naija News reports that the National Electricity power grid collapsed again on Monday morning, making the eighth time in 2022.

Meanwhile, another distribution company, Abuja Electricity Distribution Plc, which covers Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Kogi and Nasarawa States lamented power disruption due to the collapse of the national grid.

“We appeal for your understanding as all stakeholders are working hard to restore normal supply,” said Abuja Electricity Distribution Plc in its report earlier.

Kaduna Electric said its franchise states will experience power outages due to grid collapse. Naija News understands that Kaduna Electric’s franchise covers the States of Kaduna, Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara.
