New Chelsea manager Rafael Benitez got a hostile reception at Stamford Bridge as his side drew with Manchester City in his first game in charge.
Benitez, who restored Fernando Torres to Chelsea’s starting line-up, was booed by home fans before kick-off, reports the BBC.
City had the best openings in a tight game, with David Silva heading over and Petr Cech denying Pablo Zabaleta.
Torres toiled as Chelsea struggled to create chances but he still had their best effort when he fired just over.
Meanwhile, Andy Carroll scored his first goal for West Ham but could not prevent his side falling to defeat at Tottenham.
Gareth Bale hit the bar before Jermain Defoe opened the scoring with a superb run from the right and crisp finish.
After rattling the bar himself, Clint Dempsey found Bale in the box and he beat Jussi Jaaskelainen via a post.
Aaron Lennon broke free and squared for Defoe to make the game safe, although Carroll’s header ended the Liverpool loanee’s 15-game wait for a goal.
In other matches Southampton stunned Newcastle 2-0 while Swansea and Liverpool played goalless.
