His Excellency Ambassador Iliya Nuhu was on hand Wednesday at the Aeroport International Bamako Senou  to formally  welcome the Golden Eaglets to Bamako  with the charge that the team must do everything within its power to ensure victory  in their Sunday’ showdown against their Malian counterparts.

The Golden Eaglets who left Abuja Wednesday morning finally berthed in Bamako – after  stopovers in Lagos and Lome – at 3:30pm local time (4:30pm Nigerian time) aboard Asky Airlines.

Local temperature at the time of the team’s arrival was pegged at 36° and the Ambassador has enjoined the players to overlook any obstacle in order to make the country proud.

“Let me formally welcome you to Bamako and I want to wish you all the  best in your game against  Mali on Sunday,” the Ambassador said, adding that  the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has been in touch with the  Nigerian Embassy  over the welfare of the team.

“As at now, most of our staff are in Accra for a conference but that notwithstanding, we shall make sure that you get the needed support here.”

The team is lodged at a newly renovated 3-star Hotel Columbus in the Hammadallaye A.C.I  district of Bamako which according to the Ambassador  is a stone throw from the new Embassy of the Federal Republic of Nigeria which  is under construction.

Golden Eaglets’ head coach, Garba Manu (MFR) said the hotel accommodation is adequate in a neat environment   with proper beddings and is by far; better than the team’s hotel accommodation when they played away games in Niamey and Conakry.

Meanwhile, the NFF already arranged for the team to be served with Nigerian food and home cuisine outside the hotel arrangement to avoid any hanky-panky from their host.
