The Spanish media has attacked Barcelona following their humiliating 4-0 loss to Liverpool in the Champions League semi final first leg on Tuesday.
Barcelona suffered one of the worst Champions League defeats of all time when they allowed their three goals advantage slip away at Ansfield.
The Spanish media have unsurprisingly been hugely critical following the loss and described it as the worst moment in the history of the club
Spanish newspaper, Sport, on yellow letters on plain black funereal background, carried the headline, “The biggest farce in history.”
The newspaper further described it as the “blackest page” in the history of Barca after they were “eliminated from the Champions League in an unforgivable way at Anfield.”
The paper also compared yesterday night’s situation to Barca’s elimination from the competition last season where they went out to Roma in the quarter finals, losing 3-0 in Italy having won 4-1 in the first leg.
Sport wrote on its backpage, “As happened in Rome, [Barca manager Ernesto] Valverde’s team did not know how to manage their advantage.”
They ran the headline: “Fracaso Historico”- meaning “Historic Failure” – under a picture of the scoreboard reading 4-0 to Liverpool.
