Speaking during a sermon, Sheikh Gumi urged Nigerians to vote for leaders who would negotiate with bandits when elected into office.

While describing bandits as “our people,” Gumi said Nigeria’s next set of leaders should negotiate and give bandits what they want for peace to reign.

He said: “Don’t vote for those who will fight bandits. The fighters (bandits) are our people. So please vote for those who, after attaining power, will call and negotiate with our people (bandits) so as to give them what they want for peace to reign.”

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has openly backed the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, urging Nigerians to vote him to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.

Speaking while praising the former Anambra State governor for visiting the Internally Displaced People (IDPs) camps in the State on Christmas day, Ortom said the LP presidential flagbearer is the best person that can help deliver Nigeria from its challenges.

While praying that God would bless Obi’s presidential ambition, Ortom said the LP candidate has the capacity to bring justice, equity and fairness.

According to Ortom: “Several presidential candidates have come here, and none of them have chosen to visit those IDPs camps and look at their plight to see how they are doing and give them hope that when they win, they will bring them succour, help, and hope.

“For you to have chosen to visit the IDPs on a Christmas day that you should be celebrating with your family, for me as a Christian, I say God will bless you and your aspirations. My prayer is that God will bless your aspiration to be the president of this country.

“Because I have seen capacity, faith, and hope, and I have seen someone who can bring the required equity, justice, and fairness that I have been pursuing since I became governor in 2015. If I were not in PDP, I would have been following you all over the place to canvass and vote for you.

“But, because I’m in PDP, I’m telling Nigerians that this man can help deliver this country from its challenges.”

A chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress, (APC) has risen to defend President Muhammadu Buhari saying that all his critics concerning the state of insecurity in the country are not being fair to his administration.

According to the Director of contact and mobilisation for the Tinubu/Shettima presidential campaign council for the North West, Aminu Sani Jaji, the APC deserved reelection by Nigerians because the party under President Buhari has tried in the area of securing the country.

Naija News gathered that Jaji, who is a former lawmaker told pressmen in Gusau, the capital of Zamfara State, during a press briefing that the APC inherited the insecurity situation in the country, therefore any insinuation that insurgency and insecurity started under President Buhari’s administration won’t be fair to him.

Jaji submitted that the responsibility of securing lives and properties is a duty of all, including the opposition parties.

Jaji, while canvassing support for the APC said Nigerians had quickly forgotten that the discovery of oil in Gombe State was achieved during President Buhari’s tenure which he said was another milestone achievement by the APC-led administration in the country.

He predicted that indication shows that the APC will run away with a landslide victory in the forthcoming general elections.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) says the naira withdrawal limit recently announced by the Central Bank of Nigeria would bring more hardship to citizens of the country, particularly the masses.

The NLC through its president, Ayuba Wabba said the implementation of the policy is ill-timed because most rural areas do not have technological facilities to support transactions of such type of business activities.

He said some local government areas in some states at the moment do not even have functional banking services and have to rely heavily on cash transactions to carry out day-to-day business activities.

Wabba added that the business of Point of Sales (POS) operators who rely on it for survival is also threatened.

Naija News recalls the CBN had initially announced a limit of N100,000 per week for individual cash withdrawals and N500,000 ceiling for corporate cash withdrawals but following major outcries, the apex bank reviewed the limit to N500,000 and N5 million for individuals and organizations respectively.

While acknowledging the fact that the policy is targeted at stopping those manipulating the system for money laundering, it has become a case of trying to kill a fly with a machine gun.

The NLC president, therefore, called for a total review of the policy.

Ahead of the planned revelation by Governor Nyesom Wike on the presidential candidate he would support in 2023, indications have suggested he may be pitching his camp with the All Progressives Congress flagbearer, Bola Tinubu.

Amidst the lingering face-off between the G5 Governors and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Naija News recalls Wike last week disclosed he would be revealing the presidential candidate that would get his support by January 2023.

The Rivers Governor said not only would he disclose his preferred presidential candidate in January, but he would also campaign for him.

The G5 Governors consisting Nyesom Wike (Rivers), Seyi Makinde (Oyo); Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia); Samuel Ortom (Benue), and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu) have insisted except the PDP National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu must step down from his position as a condition for supporting the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

However, fresh information suggests Wike may be supporting Tinubu of the APC, which will make the 2023 presidency a bigger up-hill challenge for Atiku and the PDP.

A member of the APC National Working Committee (NWC) who spoke to Daily Independent on the condition of anonymity said on Sunday that they are confident Wike and his loyalists will support Tinubu.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has berated the Bishop of Sokoto Catholic Diocese, Mathew Hassan Kukah, over his comments on President Muhamadu Buhari.

Naija News reports that the ruling party was reacting to the emotional Christmas message at St. Mary Catholic Church, Sokoto, titled, ‘Let us turn a new leaf,’ on Sunday.

In the message, the fiery cleric criticised President Buhari over his failure to fulfill his 2015 electoral promises to Nigerians, saying that he will be leaving Nigerians more vulnerable than he met them eight years ago.

Reacting in a chat with The Punch on Sunday evening, the Director of Publicity for the APC, Bala Ibrahim, described Kukah’s Christmas message as ungodly and not objective.

The APC chieftain said Kukah was not been fair to Buhari, saying that the cleric should rather appreciate the President for the way and manner he handles the country.

Ibrahim said Kukah was wrong to have insinuated that Buhari has used public office or his position to access better healthcare abroad, adding that the cleric should always consult with his conscience before criticizing the President.

He asserted that the government has not been bearing the cost of medical attention President Buhari has been getting abroad, adding that Buhari has not taken advantage of Nigerian healthcare for the betterment of his own health.
