The Petroleum Industry Bill 2020 has scaled through first reading on the floor of the Senate House.
The Senate House has passed on the Petroleum Industry Bill unto the second reading.
The proposed bill, which was presented by the Leader of the Senate, Yahaya Abdullahi, was read for the first time by the Senate President, Ahmed Lawan during plenary on Wednesday.
Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari had two weeks ago submitted the bill to the national assembly and the principal officers of both chambers of the assembly promised to ensure that the bill is given the utmost attention and passed as soon as possible but not without thorough consideration.
The President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, stated this during a National Assembly joint leadership meeting on the PIB, with the Minister of State for Petroleum, Timpre Sylva.
The Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Mele Kyari, and other heads of the NNPC subsidiaries were also in attendance at that meeting.
