According to Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, the Nigerian legal system’s integrity is questionable due to the election of Senate President Ahmad Lawan as senator-elect.
Datti Baba-Ahmed is puzzled as to how Lawan was allowed to run for Senate after participating in the primaries that produced Bola Tinubu as presidential candidate for the All Progressives Congress.

Despite being involved in the party’s presidential primary election, the Supreme Court affirmed Lawan as the authentic candidate for Yobe North senatorial district in the 2023 elections. Lawan went on to win the election by a large margin.
Datti Baba-Ahmed believes that powerful politicians should not use the law as a tool against weaker politicians. He believes that when the constitution’s provisions are disregarded by the high and mighty, the law loses its meaning. He emphasizes that the law should not be treated as a game that politicians can manipulate. Justices are not in place to serve the interests of rich politicians and their whims.
