The House of Reps Committee on Appropriations has increased the 2020 budget proposal from N10.33 trillion submitted by President Muhammadu Buhari to N10.59 trillion.
The increment is contained in the final report presented to the House by the Chairman of the Committee on Appropriations, Muktar Batera on Wednesday, December 4.
President Muhammadu Buhari had presented an initial budget of N10.33trillion. It is unknown if the increase was in consultation with the executive or a unilateral increment by the committees.
The statutory transfer is N560,470,827,235, debt servicing will gulp N2,725,498,930,000, N4,842,974,600,640 is for Recurrent (Non-Debt) Expenditure while the sum of N2,465,418,006,955 is for contribution to the Development Fund for Capital Expenditure.
The report will be considered by the committee on supply before it will be passed.
The Senate Committee on Appropriations also submitted its report today on Wednesday, December 4.
Meanwhile, Jafaru Iliyasu Auna, a House of Reps member has been reported dead in Abuja.
Jafaru was said to have returned to Abuja on Sunday; after a retreat organised for members of the House Committee on Public Accounts in Lagos.
The legislator passed away on Monday morning at his Maitama residence in Abuja.
Jafaru, until his death was a member of the ruling APC; and one of the 360 members of the 9th House that took the oath of office and oath of allegiance on June 11, 2019.
The Speaker of the House of Reps has expressed sadness over the demise of the member representing Magama/Rijau Federal Constituency of Niger State.
Femi Gbajabiamila said he was deeply shaken by the demise of the Niger lawmaker; whom he described as a gentleman who showed great willingness and determination to work with his other colleagues; to make good laws for the country.
