COVID-19: 31 fresh casualties recorded as confirmed cases hit 17,148

The COVID-19 pandemic has accounted for 31 new deaths in Nigeria.

Equally important, the fresh casualties were recorded on Tuesday, June 16, 2020 across Nigeria. Consequently, the death toll from the COVID-19 crisis has risen to 455 in Nigeria.

In addition, Lagos State recorded 25 deaths between June 12 and 15. These casualties were all announced on June 16, 2020.

Meanwhile, a total of 490 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded in Nigeria on Tuesday. Consequently, the 490 new cases have taken confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Nigeria to 17, 148. Furthermore, Lagos continues to maintain its status as the epicentre of the COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria. The state recorded 142 new cases out of the 490 recorded on Tuesday.

In addition, 10 other states and Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) racked up double figures in new cases. They include Bayelsa with 54 cases, Rivers – 39, Delta – 37, Oyo with 30; as well as Kaduna – 26 and Imo with 23 new cases. Others include Enugu which accounted for 19 new cases, Kwara – 17, Gombe – 11 and Ondo – 10. On its part, the FCT racked up 60 new cases of the dreaded COVID-19 on Tuesday.

In summary, the 490 new cases were recorded in 15 states and the FCT.

This was disclosed by Nigeria’s disease fighting agency, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC). Equally important, the NCDC made this known via its verified handle on the micro-blogging site, Twitter.

It tweeted: ‘‘490 new cases of #COVID19Nigeria; Lagos-142, FCT-60, Bayelsa-54, Rivers-39, Delta-37, Oyo-30, Kaduna-26, Imo-23, Enugu-19, Kwara-17, Gombe-11, Ondo-10, Bauchi-8, Ogun-7, Borno-6, Benue-1. 17,148 confirmed. 5,623 discharged. 455 deaths.’’

 

Meanwhile, a total of 283 new patients have made full recoveries from the COVID-19 virus in Nigeria. These new recoveries were discharged yesterday and join the growing number of those who have beaten the virus. With this development, the rank of recoveries from COVID-19 has now risen to 5,632 so far.

Active cases of COVID-19 in Nigeria so far stand at 11, 070. On the other hand, total samples tested at the moment stand at 96, 402.
