Kano State has recorded its index case of coronavirus. The development has increased to 19 the number of states in Nigeria with recorded cases of the dreaded virus.
This was confirmed by the country’s disease-fighting agency, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Saturday.
As a matter of fact, the NCDC confirmed the development via a tweet posted on its verified handle; on the micro-blogging site, Twitter. Further, the NCDC disclosed that the index case in Kano is one of the 13 new cases discovered on Saturday.
‘‘13 new cases of #COVID19 have been reported; 11 in Lagos, 1 in Delta & 1 in Kano. As at 9:30pm 11th April, there are 318 confirmed cases of #COVID19 reported in Nigeria. 70 have been discharged with 10 deaths. There are 19 states with confirmed cases in Nigeria,’’ the NCDC disclosed.

Meanwhile, a source disclosed to 1st News that the index case in Kano lives around UDB Road. The patient was said to have returned from Abuja on the eve of the border closure in Kano State. Subsequently, he had taken ill and began to manifest some of the symptoms of the coronavirus. Thereafter, his case was reported to the NCDC and a test conducted on him; which came back positive.
Furthermore, the source disclosed that all those close to the index case have been tested. They are currently awaiting their results. Also, he revealed that contact tracing had been activated to ascertain other persons; that may have been exposed to the coronavirus pandemic through the infected person.
Meanwhile, the index case is currently receiving treatment at the Kwanar Dawaki Isolation Centre.
Also, the Kano State Government led by Governor Abdullahi Ganduje is expected to announce other stricter lockdown measures.
