APC Has No Respect For Democracy – LP Speaks On Muslim-Muslim Ticket
The Labor Party (LP) has accused the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) of issuing the same tenets ahead of the February 25 presidential election. While LP rejected the APC’s Muslim-to-Muslim ticket, it argued that it was not a true expression of the inclusivity and respect for diversity that democracy stands for.
His main speaker for the LP Presidential Election Council, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, said this in a telephone interview with Vanguard on Tuesday. He noted that Nigeria’s diversity makes it imperative that all political parties consider the sensibilities of the public.
Tanko argued that his APC’s decision to publish the same faith map, despite complaints from Christians, showed it ran counter to collective sensibility. his words: “Our opposition to the same faith ticket is based on what true democracy means. True democracy in a society like ours is one that recognizes and respects our diversity. and that diversity must be reflected in the selection of candidates for the country’s top office: “The ruling APC’s decision to abandon this is a slight insult to our collective sensibilities.”
