Festus Keyamo, a spokesman for the Tinubu-Shettima presidential campaign committee, stated that the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) ought to be requesting the position of Senate President or Chief Justice of Nigeria rather than vice president.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has been under fire from CAN and other Christian organizations for fielding a Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket in the 2023 election.
Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the party’s presidential candidate, was criticized for choosing a fellow Muslim as his running mate, according to the detractors.
Keyamo addressed the subject on Channel Television and said that those who had criticized the same faith ticket were mistaken in believing that the vice president could serve as a check on the president’s authority.
He continued by saying that no one can share the president’s immense role as commander-in-chief of the armed forces.
The vice president receives an assignment from the president just like he does from the secretary of the government and other appointees, according to the state minister for labor.
Given that there are three tiers of government, according to Keyamo, Nigerian Christians should demand a Chief Justice or Senate President. The chief justice leads the judiciary, the president leads the legislative branch, and the president of the Senate leads the executive branch.
He came to the conclusion that the Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket was acceptable and that political parties cannot pander to the emotions of any group.
