Markets in Anambra State will be shut down on Thursday as the All Progressives Grand Alliance begins its Presidential campaign in Awka, the state capital.

The Alex Ekwueme Square, the venue of the event was wearing a new look while party faithful from other states of the federation had started arriving the state Wednesday evening.

Briefing journalists about the event, the National Chairman of APGA, Chief Victor Oye, “The traders in the state have decided to close all markets as a sign of solidarity to our party.”

He said every arrangement had been concluded for hosting of the event in Anambra adding that the occasion would attract no fewer than one million people.

Oye who said APGA would spring surprises in the 2019 general elections said the choice of Awka was strategic for good planning because Anambra had an APGA government.

He debunked the speculations that his party was supporting President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2019 poll.

He added, “APGA is not working for Buhari but for itself and candidate, Gen. John Gbor.

“They said APGA is working for APC, that is balderdash, we are not working for anybody, we are working for ourselves and that is why we chose our Presidential candidate in the person of Gen. John Gbor and his Vice, Jerry Chukwueke, who is an international businessman.

“Our Presidential candidate is a PhD holder in anthropology. We are working to market him and he is being accepted all over the North and even in the South-East here. He is the most qualified of all the presidential candidates.”
