Former Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Sikiru Lawal, has appealed to members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to resist attempt by those he described as fifth columnists to use judiciary to destabilize the party ahead of the 2018 governorship poll.
Lawal, who was deputy to Ex-governor, Segun Oni, urged the party not to tolerate any act of indiscipline that could make the APC win undeservedly in Ekiti, the way it did in Ondo State.
The former Deputy Governor said this in Ado Ekiti on Friday in reaction to the Tuesday’s Federal High Court judgement which dissolved the Gboyega Oguntuase-led State Working Committee of the party loyal to Governor Ayodele Fayose and Ahmed Makarfi Caretaker Committee.
In the judgement delivered by Justice Taiwo Taiwo, the court granted recognition to Chief Williams Ajayi-led executive, a group perceived to be loyal to Senator Buruji Kashamu and Ali Modu Sheriff’s faction of the party.
Lawal, who described the judgement as a travesty of justice, said: “I want to believe that our party members must be disciplined. Time has come for us to be cohesive as an opposition party that can muster the strength to challenge the APC-led federal government.
“The way we lost the Ondo governorship election is still fresh in our memory. Our party is very popular in Ondo State, but the litigation that gave our candidate, Mr. Eyitayo Jegede last minute eligibility to conduct the election led to that disastrous defeat.
“This is the same card the APC is playing out in Ekiti today using some of our members. No loyal party man will be happy doing hatchet’s jobs for the ruling party.
“What is happening to us in Ekiti is nothing short of such and our party must take decisive action to ensure that we retain Ekiti not minding the onslaught of the ruling party”, Lawal stated.
Lawal assured that the party would overcome the present challenges and work assiduously to win the forthcoming election in Ekiti regardless of the intimidation and harassment from the members of APC.
The ex-deputy governor appealed to Ajayi’s group to retrace its step by complying with the party’s constitution, which directed all members to maintain loyalty even in the face of provocation.
